For the first graders at the University Laboratory School on the campus of LSU, they had the most memorable field trips ever last Wednesday.

About 100 piled into an auditorium to watch a video on LSU Football – after the video, it was time for the little Tigers to come out of their den. These kids toured the entire stadium, visiting locker rooms, trophy rooms, and even had a chance to take experience a true field trip…on the playing field at Tiger Stadium.

“They had a blast,” said LSU public relations official Herb Vincent, who tweeted several of these pictures.

Given Alabama’s college football success in recent years, what’s one broken BCS championship trophy?

Last year, the father of Crimson Tide long snapper Carson Tinker actually broke the Crimson Tide’s reward for its first place BCS ranking in 2011, knocking over the table on which the crystal football sat. The university ordered a replacement for $30,000, no hard feelings were harbored and everyone went on their merry way.

But what happened to the remains of the broken crystal ball?

On Sunday, the University of Alabama auctioned off the remains at a celebrity golf  tournament in Tuscaloosa….for $105,000!!

What is Vince Young doing these days?

Since leaving early for the NFL, Vince Young has been anything but an NFL superstar. Young began his career by winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2006, but Young’s career has toppled from being among the top QBs in the league to the ‘nobody wants you’ player that he has become. With all the injuries that Young dealt with through the years and the immaturity that came with it, Young has found himself trying for another shot after spending a season in Philadelphia in 2011 and recently being waived by the Buffalo Bills in 2012 before the season even began.

Now with Young out of a job, the former star QB returned to his roots at the University of Texas to walk across the stage to accept his college degree.

Young told CBSSports.com that graduating tops all of the accolades in his career.

“This will rank No. 1 because it is what I came to school for,” Young told CBSSports.com. “I came here to get an education, and to win a national championship. And now, I get to put that smile on my mom’s face.”

It’s been one of the nation’s best rivalries in college football, but this year’s Sept. 7 matchup (first meeting since 2008) in Miami could be the last game the Gators and ‘Canes square off for a ‘good, long while.

According to Andrea Adelson of ESPN.com,  Miami AD Blake James told reporters that he hasn’t spoken to Florida AD Jeremy Foley about continuing the rivalry. James pointed to scheduling concerns as potential obstacle for future meetings.

“This is a game that’s been on the schedule and we’re thrilled to be hosting them in South Florida,” James said. “With that said, I haven’t spoken with Jeremy or the University of Florida about future games and I don’t know how it would fit into their schedule or fit into ours right now. There hasn’t been any conversation and there isn’t anything on the schedule for the future.”

With the SEC’s proposal to move to a nine-game conference schedule, this could further complicate the future of this once great rivalry – not to mention Florida’s annual non-conference matchup with Florida State.

Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp announced Monday that former Florida QB Chris Leak will be returning to the University of Florida. Leak is joining up with the Gators as a quality control assistant and will report to the defensive staff in breaking down film as well as other office tasks.

The former Gators QB led the Florida to the 2007 BCS National Championship with a 41-14 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes – with Leak taking home MVP honors.

Leak finished his career as the Gators all-time leader in passing yards (11,213), completions (895) and attempts (1,458) from 2003-06. Since leaving UF Leak has played in the Canadian Football League, Arena Football League and served as co-host of College Sports Nation on SiriusXM satellite radio.

According to Muschamp, Leak is extremely interested in pursuing a coaching career.
