It’s been one of the nation’s best rivalries in college football, but this year’s Sept. 7 matchup (first meeting since 2008) in Miami could be the last game the Gators and ‘Canes square off for a ‘good, long while.

According to Andrea Adelson of ESPN.com, Miami AD Blake James told reporters that he hasn’t spoken to Florida AD Jeremy Foley about continuing the rivalry. James pointed to scheduling concerns as potential obstacle for future meetings.

“This is a game that’s been on the schedule and we’re thrilled to be hosting them in South Florida,” James said. “With that said, I haven’t spoken with Jeremy or the University of Florida about future games and I don’t know how it would fit into their schedule or fit into ours right now. There hasn’t been any conversation and there isn’t anything on the schedule for the future.”

With the SEC’s proposal to move to a nine-game conference schedule, this could further complicate the future of this once great rivalry – not to mention Florida’s annual non-conference matchup with Florida State.

Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp announced Monday that former Florida QB Chris Leak will be returning to the University of Florida. Leak is joining up with the Gators as a quality control assistant and will report to the defensive staff in breaking down film as well as other office tasks.

The former Gators QB led the Florida to the 2007 BCS National Championship with a 41-14 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes – with Leak taking home MVP honors.

Leak finished his career as the Gators all-time leader in passing yards (11,213), completions (895) and attempts (1,458) from 2003-06. Since leaving UF Leak has played in the Canadian Football League, Arena Football League and served as co-host of College Sports Nation on SiriusXM satellite radio.

According to Muschamp, Leak is extremely interested in pursuing a coaching career.

The Florida State Seminoles and South Florida Bulls have agreed to a home-and-home series for the 2015-2016 season. The Seminoles will host the Bulls at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on September 26, 2015. The following season, the series heads to Tampa Bay where the Bulls will host the ‘Noles at Raymond James Stadium on September 24, 2016.

The series is tied 1-1.

“We are excited to add USF back to our schedule for the 2015 and 2016 seasons,” said Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman. “For all the Seminole fans throughout Central Florida, this is a great opportunity to once again see their team play in an NFL facility. The last time we played in Raymond James versus USF the atmosphere was excellent and the excitement generated among our fan base was unmatched.”

“We’ve been working collaboratively on extending the series between USF and FSU for some time,” USF Director of Athletics Doug Woolard said. “The two previous games provided such great atmospheres for both of our fan bases that it was important for us to extend the series. Combined with our recent non-conference scheduling announcements, we’re very pleased with how our future schedules have come together.”

South Florida will need to go back to drawing board now since they have no scheduled 5 non-conference games for the 2015 season. The Bulls are currently slated to open the season at home vs. Florida A&M (Sept. 5), host Indiana (Sept. 12), visit Maryland (Sept. 19), and travel to Nevada (Oct. 3). They will now need to cut one of those lose to make room for the FSU series.

Biletnikoff Award Press Release

Former college and NFL coach Dick Vermeil will deliver the keynote address at the 2014 Biletnikoff Award Banquet, called by 2013 keynoter Larry Csonka and other observers ”the bestbanquet in college sports.” Vermeil was an outstanding head coach on four levels of football in high school, community college, NCAA Division I and the National Football League. He was head coach of UCLA, the Philadelphia Eagles, the St. Louis Rams, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Chairman Ritchie Pickron of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation (the creator and sponsor of the Biletnikoff Award) stated, “It is a great day for us to have the remarkable coach and great American Dick Vermeil as our 2014 banquet keynote speaker.”

In 1975, Vermeil led UCLA to its first conference championship in 10 years and that season the Bruins beat undefeated, top ranked, and heavily favored Ohio State in the 1976 Rose Bowl.

Coach Vermeil began his NFL head coaching career in 1976 with the Philadelphia Eagles. By 1978, the Eagles had reached the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.
Vermeil was named the NFL’s Coach of the Year in 1980 and led the Eagles to Super Bowl XV, losing in the Super Bowl to the Oakland Raiders.

Retiring after the 1982 season, Vermeil worked for the next 15 years as a sports commentator for CBS and ABC, before returning to the NFL to coach the St. Louis
Rams in 1997. Leading the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XXXIV after the 1999 season, Vermeil was again named NFL Coach of the Year.

After retiring from the Rams in 2000, Vermeil was named head coach of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. In 2003, the Chiefs won the AFC West Division with a 13-3
record and were the NFL’s top ranked offense. Coach Vermeil retired at the conclusion of the 2005 season.

In 2001, Coach Vermeil received the coveted Silver Beaver Award for his steadfast and significant support of Boy Scouts of America.

Born in Calistoga, Napa Valley, California, Vermeil partnered with OnTheEdge Winery to produce his own wine, named “Garage Cabernet”, in honor of his father,
Jean Louis Vermeil.

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation will celebrate its 20th annual banquet on February 8, 2014, with its usual sell-out crowd of 550 patrons at the University Center Club in the south end zone of Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. The 2013 banquet saw a record $740,000 in college scholarships awarded to North Florida high school seniors who had overcome significant barriers to achieve at the highest academic and extra curricular levels. The 2014 banquet, like the 2013 banquet, will be broadcast through live streaming by ESPN3. Chairman Ritchie Pickron and Dick Vermeil will present the Biletnikoff Award trophy, the most beautiful in college sports, and the Biletnikoff Award ring to the 2013 season Biletnikoff Award winner at the 2014 banquet.

The Biletnikoff Award winner is selected by a 203- person national selection committee comprised of the nation’s outstanding college football writers, analysts, and commentators, as well as former eminent receivers and Biletnikoff Award winners.

The Foundation has achieved remarkable success over its twenty years of existence with all uncompensated volunteers as trustees and leaders. By 2013, the Foundation had achieved another milestone: Over the course of 20 years, the total value of trustees’ volunteered hours exceeded 3 million dollars. The Foundation boasts North Florida’s leading business and professional achievers as trustees. The Foundation has attracted the finest banquet keynote speakers in American sports, including Dick Vermeil, Larry Csonka, Bart Starr, Archie Manning, Don Shula, Mike Ditka, Steve Largent, Jerry Kramer, Bill Curry, Dan Fouts, and Ron Jaworski.

Founders, Jack Warner & Brandon Landry, met in 1997 on the hardwood of LSU’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center. As young boys growing up, each dreamed of playing basketball for LSU & both succeeded – it just so happened to be as walk-ons. Jack’s first season with the Tigers was in 1996 with Coach Dale Brown & Brandon walked on the team the following year.
